Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS reportedly puts Lausanne-Sport up for sale
INEOS has reportedly put Lausanne-Sport up for sale as Manchester United’s board considers Michael Carrick’s future after eight winless games.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS has reportedly put FC Lausanne-Sport up for sale, with advisers appointed to find buyers for the Swiss club.
Consultancy Alvarez & Marsal is handling the process and has circulated sales prospectuses to prospective investors. INEOS also has French club OGC Nice on the market.
Lausanne-Sport was bought by INEOS in November 2017. The club is bottom of the Swiss league and its losses are forecast to reach £5 million this season. That figure could rise if a replacement for INEOS’ sponsorship is not secured.
Relegation would be Lausanne-Sport’s third under INEOS. The club has also won promotion twice during that ownership and qualified for European competition once.
United board weighs Carrick’s future
At Manchester United, Ratcliffe bought a 27.7% stake for £1.25 billion in December 2023. The Glazer family retained majority ownership but gave INEOS responsibility for football operations.
Ratcliffe has since funded improvements to United’s training facilities and introduced cost reductions, including workforce cuts.
United’s board is now considering whether to dismiss Michael Carrick after eight matches without a win across all competitions. Bournemouth beat United 3–0 at home on Sunday 25 October.
United have recorded one Premier League victory and two Champions League wins this season. They have also been eliminated from the Carabao Cup.
Asked after the Bournemouth defeat whether he expected to lose his job, Carrick said: “I totally understand the situation. I’m not expecting anything in particular, to be honest.”
Eddie Howe, Unai Emery, Antonio Conte and Julian Nagelsmann have been linked with the manager’s job.
