Cadishead buses back on route after driver attacked and services diverted
Bus services have resumed in Cadishead after diversions following an attack on a driver. TfGM says police and safety patrols will increase.
Bus services in Cadishead have resumed their normal routes after diversions following a weekend of disorder in which a driver was attacked.
The number 67 was diverted away from the area. Kate Green, TfGM’s Head of Policing and Community Safety, said some services had been diverted on Sunday 1 November but were running normally again.
She said TfGM was helping police investigate several incidents, including some involving buses. Residents and passengers could expect more police and safety staff over the following days.
Driver knocked down and kicked
The disorder took place on Saturday 31 October in the Salford neighbourhood. CCTV showed around 15 to 20 young people surrounding a bus driver, knocking him down and kicking him while he was on the ground. Many were aged between 12 and 16.
A passer-by who tried to step in also appeared to be attacked. Other footage showed fireworks being aimed at cars and businesses, and doors being kicked down.
Greater Manchester Police attended and have appealed for witnesses.
Pub prepares safety plan
Managers at The Plough said they locked customers inside after young people fired fireworks at the pub and threw eggs. They said the closure affected trade, with potential customers seeing shut doors and a group gathered opposite.
The managers believed the gathering had been ‘planned’ through social media, with groups arriving separately by bus. They said they had heard it could happen again on Bonfire Night and had prepared a safety plan.
A resident said fear of disorder meant she rarely went out after dark. Another local worker said she now locked the business door after sunset.
